The project Strengthening of Metrology for the Improvement of Competitiveness in the Egyptian Economy II aims to enhance the capacity of Egypt’s National Institute of Standards (NIS) to provide demand-oriented metrological services for the food processing sector. By fostering collaboration between quality infrastructure providers and industry stakeholders, it supports compliance with national and international food safety and quality standards, thereby improving product quality and competitiveness in local and export markets. Building on previous achievements, the initiative develops certified reference materials, a joint training programme, and a digital exchange platform, contributing to economic growth, public health, and stronger integration into international markets.

Strengthening the Quality Infrastructure for Improved Competitiveness of the Ethiopian Economy

The Ethiopian government has emphasised the importance of the agricultural sector for its economy. In this context, increasing productivity and product quality in agriculture starts at the pre-production stage. This project aims to improve quality assurance at this stage for the entire agricultural sector. Quality assurance in agricultural pre-production will be strengthened through improved conditions for standardisation, measurement, conformity assessment and accreditation systems, which together form the quality infrastructure system.

The project objective was: Private and state companies and institutions in selected regions in Kyrgyzstan utilise quality infrastructure (QI) services. To achieve this goal, the project focussed on three fields of action: (1) capacity building of QI institutions to provide services, (2) improving access to reliable QI services in selected regions and (3) sensitising relevant stakeholders to the importance of QI for economic development.
