The transport sector is a major source of carbon dioxide emissions, an air pollutant that increases the greenhouse effect and thus global warming. The leaflet describes the effort undertaken by metrology institutes in Latin America for the development of measurement capabilities to underpin the verification activities of government authorities with the final aim to mitigate climate change.
Quinoa is considered a strategic food due to its nutritional properties and its capacity to adapt to climate change. The leaflet illustrates the steps undertaken to develop a certified reference material of this crop which represents an accessible and low-cost option to monitor and promote its production through quality measurements.
In order to face climate change and its consequences, it is of great relevance for industries and productive organisations to have reliable measurements in parameters that have to do with environmental management parameters, especially greenhouse gases (GHGs). The leaflet describes the output of an initiative that aims to ensure the competence of validating or verifying bodies for GHG emission measurements by companies and industries.
In order to have reliable greenhouse gas (GHG) measurements in reports and verifications aimed at protecting biodiversity and curbing climate change, the development of reliable measurements of greenhouse gases (GHGs) is required. The development of reliable and traceable measurements based on the use of reference standards, such as certified reference materials (CRMs) is needed.
The development in the region of capabilities for measuring spectral irradiance in the UV range provides the basis for a proper solar map to assess climate change. In this leaflet the development of these new metrological capabilities in the region is described.
