QI is emphasised as a key factor, as standards and technical regulations as well as reliable measurements and conformity assessment are required to implement the concept. The circular economy combines ecological, economic and social goals and offers developing and emerging countries in particular the opportunity to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. It not only helps to reduce poverty, but also supports the economic development of partner countries and the creation of new jobs. Specific examples from Tunisia and Colombia illustrate how QI is used in practice to recycle materials such as plastic recyclates or electric furnace slag and transform them into new products.
