This project, conducted in partnership with Indonesia’s National Standardization Institute (BSN), aims to enhance the reliability of environmental and climate monitoring across Indonesia. By strengthening institutions responsible for quality infrastructure—such as laboratories, regulatory bodies, and industry associations—the initiative supports accurate air and water quality analysis. These improvements help ensure environmental protection, support climate policy, and align with global goals such as clean water access and climate action. The project contributes to better governance, sustainable industry practices, and informed decision-making for a healthier environment.
The MEDEA project (Metrology – Enabling Developing Economies in Asia) enhances regional metrological capacity to support sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. In collaboration with the Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP) and the Asia-Pacific Legal Metrology Forum (APLMF), the initiative focuses on strengthening national metrology institutes (NMIs) and legal metrology authorities (LMAs) in developing economies. Through technical and leadership training, institutional consulting, and targeted capacity-building activities, MEDEA supports accurate and traceable measurement systems critical for implementing national strategies aligned with the UN 2030 Agenda and Covid-19 response. The project advances measurement reliability in areas such as health, trade, industry, and environmental monitoring, fostering regional integration and international recognition of metrology infrastructure.
The objective of the project is to improve quality infrastructure services for the generation and use of renewable energy, focusing on photovoltaic systems. In Vietnam, the demand for electricity is rising significantly, while the country is undergoing an energy transition. The project develops relevant standards and improves testing and measurement services in the renewable energy sector to increase the quality, safety, and sustainability of photovoltaic systems and contribute to a successful energy transition.
This project, conducted in collaboration with Cambodia’s Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation (MISTI), aims to strengthen Cambodia’s national quality infrastructure (QI). Building on previous work, the initiative focuses on improving metrological and food safety testing services to support accreditation and enhance technical capacity. By fostering collaboration among key institutions—such as the National Metrology Center and the Institute of Standards of Cambodia—and increasing customer engagement, the project seeks to make quality assurance services more accessible to businesses. This will help Cambodian companies improve product quality and competitiveness, ultimately contributing to sustainable economic development.
This project, led by PTB in partnership with the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC), supports the digital transformation of accreditation systems in the Asia-Pacific region. By helping accreditation bodies in developing economies modernize their digital tools and management platforms, the initiative aims to improve the efficiency, accessibility, and reliability of quality assurance processes. Through training, system upgrades, and the development of digital communication channels, the project strengthens trust in product and service certification—both locally and internationally—ultimately contributing to consumer protection, fair trade, and economic integration across the region.
