The publication serves as an introductory guide to the topic of Quality Infrastructure. The purpose of this publication is to provide support to private and governmental entities that play a key role in the establishment of a coherent and effective national Quality Infrastructure, in accordance with internationally agreed parameters. In addition, it aims to provide guidance to companies, in particular SMEs, through the steps necessary to ensure that their products and/or services meet the quality criteria required by international markets.

The article puts forward the immediate necessity of protecting biodiversity. The document explains that having a well-functioning, internationally recognized Quality Infrastructure is an important prerequisite for biodiversity and environmental protection within the framework of international environmental agreements and environmental policy.

This Policy Position Paper is designed to present the main aspects to be considered to develop Quality Infrastructure required for energy efficiency in Latin America and the Caribbean. The publication is the result of more than eight years of work carried out by two PTB energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, in collaboration with the OAS, SIM, COPANT and IAAC, with the aim of underlining the importance of technical competence on Quality Infrastructure services for successfully implementing energy efficiency labelling programs.

The article establishes the importance of certification and quality assurance based on an real-life example: DNA testing to identify a serial killer.

The article summarizes the problem of HIV infections in South Africa due to defective condoms. In order to assure the product's quality, certification and accreditation by an internationally recognized institution are required. The application of these Quality Infrastructure components is crucial to an efficient control system, which is responsible for producing condoms of optimal quality.
