The document presents a summary of a joint research project of the PTB and the German Development Institute. Jointly developed by the World Bank Group and PTB, the Rapid Diagnostic Tool (RDT) is aimed to help development partners and governments to analyse countries´ Quality Infrastructure (QI) ecosystems, provide recommendations to bridge gaps in the QI ecosystem, support reforms, and build the capacity of institutions. The RDT consists of several questions that are collated to provide an overall score from 0 to 4. These scores are then utilized to construct a QI radar diagram which is a graphical depiction of the current state of the Quality Infrastructure. This tool is understood as a first step before using the "Comprehensive Diagnostic Tool". It provides a benchmark of how well a country is performing compared to international good practices.

The document emphasizes the relevance of Quality Infrastructure to achieve sustainable development by outlining the impact and contribution of PTB´s projects in this context. A recognized and functional Quality Infrastructure supports integration into regional and international value chains and compliance with standards and technical protection regulations. While Quality Infrastructure is a fundamental prerequisite to economic growth, innovation, and competitiveness, it also forms an essential pillar to ensure social development.

The position paper explains the effects of Quality Infrastructure on the focal area of rural development. Different fields of action and proposals to increase the impacts of Quality Infrastructure are presented. Based on PTB´s international experience, practical suggestions for cooperation between the organisations of the Quality Infrastructure are defined.

The document presents an overview of the project that targets the quality gaps of regional micro, small and medium enterprises in Colombia. The project aims to improve the technical and metrological skills of public and private entities by increasing the level of compliance with standards and technical regulations associated with sustainable trade.
